The ship was built in 1930 at the (formerly Royal) Naval Shipyard of Castellammare di Stabia (Naples). She was launched on February 22, 1931, and was put into service in July of that year.

The Mamoli Amerigo Vespucci kit features the following:
She is a Double plank on hull construction using Lime and Walnut strips, All woods are laser cut for complete accuracy. The deck is planked in tanganyika. The fittings are made of brass, walnut, boxwood, and beech, wooden masts and spars, rigging cord and silk flags. There are large sheets of plans and clear instruction which will guide you through assembly
