The 100-Gun Ship Victory by John McCay

The three-decker First Rate Victory, was the most successful 100-gun ship of the period and the flagship of Nelson at Trafalgar. The Victory additionally served as Keppel’s flagship at Ushant, Howe’s flagship at Cape Spartel and Jervis’s flagship at Cape St Vincent. After 1824, she was relegated to the role of harbor ship. In 1922, she was moved to a dry dock at Portsmouth, England, and preserved as a museum ship. She has been the flagship of the First Sea Lord since October 2012 and is the world’s oldest naval ship still in commission with 241 years’ service as of 2019. Tours are still given of the HMS Victory daily, if you ever find yourself in England, it’s definitely worth checking out!

First published in 1987 in the acclaimed Anatomy of the Ship series, 100-Gun Ship Victory is now available in paperback. Three hundred perspective and three-view drawings, with fully descriptive keys, illustrate every detail of the ship, including hull construction, masts and yards, armament, rigging, decoration and fittings offer ship buffs, historians, and model makers a full view of the ship and her position in the development of the First Rate.
