Corel’s Half Moon is a plank-on-bulkhead wooden model ship kit reproduction of Henry Hudson’s historic vessel.
This is the ship Henry Hudson captained in 1609 while searching for the Northwest passage to Asia when he discovered a bay into which a river 500km long drained. After sailing up the river, Hudson took possession in the name of the Dutch government, baptizing it the North or Maurice River in honor of the Prince of Nassau. The bay is now known as Hudson Bay.
The Half Moon kit features pre-cut keel and bulkheads, and wood strips supplied in mahogany, walnut, tanganyika, lime wood, and beech. The metal fittings are made of Brass and gilded metal and are very well done The decorative strips along the bow and stern are made of inlaid wood – not simply painted.
Corel’s Half Moon is an intermediate kit, which is best for someone with some shipmodeling experience.
