The Greek war of Independence (1821 – 1827) is mainly known for the naval fight of Navarino. That war was characterized by the numerous combats of the Greek privateers against the Turkish ships. These galliots were very swift, with shallow draft. They could hide inside the narrow gulfs of the Aegean Islands, and then attack the Turkish ships.
