ROGER B. TANEY, 1833 REVENUE CUTTER
 

Designed by Isaac Webb, a talented designer of the time, the Roger B. Taney was one of six cutters launched between 1832 and 1833, whose hull shapes later influenced the design of the yacht America almost twenty years later. Originally planned as a Coast Guard Schooner, the Roger B. Taney was rigged with large fore and aft sails for greater speed, and a new geared rudder mechanism, which eliminated the tiller in favor of a wheel.

A great choice for the novice modeler, Amati’s kit features a pre-shaped resin hull. Fabricated to a silky smooth finish that feels like fine hardwood, it’s over-planked with individual walnut strips. Bronzed cast metal pieces include eight cannon with carriages, capstan, bilge pumps and ship’s wheel. Kit is complete with wooden masts, walnut blocks, deadeyes and belaying pins, brass eyebolts and rings, plus three diameters of cotton rigging. Printed sailcloth allows you to mount a full set of sails. Two sheets of plans and illustrated instructions are easy to follow.  Display stand and pedestals not included in kit.
